Welcome to my CHOC Walk Personal Page! #livelikesoy

Deborah Schuler
I am so excited to be participating in the 2017 CHOC Walk in the Park at the Disneyland Resort on August 27th to raise funds for CHOC Children's Hospital! This is my first, but hopefully not last, Walk for CHOC!
Most importantly, I have the honor and the privilege to walk in memory of Sawyer.
I first saw Sawyer's face on the occasional facebook post of a friend from high school. She'd often post pictures of her family, but especially her nephew with the giant smile. I remember the day she shared Sawyer's diagnosis... and as I followed his journey with cancer I cried, prayed, hoped, wished, and cried some more. After hearing of his death, I wanted to reach out to his family, but I couldn't find the right words. As an essential stranger I thought, "What could I say that would help or change this enormous loss?" Yet, Sawyer has stayed with me. As a mother, I see him in my own children. I remember him when I come across sea turtles. I mourn him when I see yet another friend or acquaintance who posts a new support page for their child who is starting their own battle with cancer. Without even meeting him, he has touched my life as he has countless others. Now, I'm doing my part to #livelikesoy. Until we find a cure, we need to fund research and care.
Most entirely, I want to insure that families who are fighting cancer have access to the best help regardless of income, and that a diagnosis doesn't have to mean the end of a little life just because you can't afford it.
The fundraising efforts of the CHOC Walk make an immediate impact on families going through the most challenging time in their lives. CHOC provides the highest level of care not only to patients, but to the siblings, parents, and extended family that make up their critical support teams.
Please help me exceed my fundraising goal for the benefit of the children and families of Southern California. Donate now or join me at CHOC's magical morning at the Disneyland® Resort. Every dollar counts for kids!
Thank you!!
